In his first face-to-face meeting with the Miss Universe contestant he embarrassed in front of the world, Steve Harvey reportedly cried as hard as a beauty pageant runner-up.
Harvey became emotional during the taping of an interview with Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, sources told TMZ.
The segment, to air on “Steve Harvey” on Tuesday, Jan. 19, marks the TV personality’s first face-to-face interaction with the 22-year-old stunner since he mistakenly named her as the winner of the Dec. 20 pageant. Seconds later, Gutierrez was forced to endure the humiliation of having the crown taken away and given to the real winner, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.
“He sobbed and sobbed,” an insider told the gossip site.
Steve Harvey finally got the chance to apologize to Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez in person on his show a month after mistakenly reading her name as the winner of the Miss Universe pageant. Harvey reportedly cried during the encounter.
Harvey is interviewing both Gutierrez and Wurtzbach in a special two-part event next week, with Miss Philippines’ episode airing Monday, but the flub has clearly weighed on him over the last month.
“As bad as I felt, oh my God, Miss Colombia, how could she possibly have felt,” Harvey told his audience in a clip from Monday’s pre-taped episode made available to journalists.
“And my heart bled for her and I haven’t been able to speak to her since.”
Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega (C) speaks to the audience as she transfers the crown from Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez (L) to winner Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach during the now infamous flub.
Gutierrez didn’t seem sure about appearing on Harvey’s show, asking her Twitter followers in a poll for advice last week. Seventy two percent responded affirmatively.
But she has gotten plenty of consolation prizes since the Miss Universe telecast and filmed interviews on NBC “Today” and Telemundo this week.
