Looks like the Ol’ Dirty Bastard needed a pacifier when recording “Fantasy” with Mariah Carey.
Cory Rooney, an A&R who arranged the collaboration between the pop diva and the Wu-Tang Clan member, recounted ODB’s erratic behavior when he showed up to the studio to record his portion of the hit song.
According to Rooney, the “I Got Your Money” rapper, who was paid $ 15,000 for his part on the 1995 single, showed up three hours late to the studio, had been drinking, and was screaming at a girl on the phone.

“He finally came out and was like, “Yo, pardon me, this b—h is driving me crazy. I need some Moet [champagne ]and Newports [cigarettes] before we get into this record,” Rooney recalled to Billboard.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard was drunk and half-asleep while recording “Fantasy” for Mariah Carey.
The rapper, who died in 2004 from a drug overdose, called the studio’s assistants “white devils” and threw a bottle of Heineken on the floor after they couldn’t find him his champagne.
After all the chaos, ODB fell asleep while trying to recite his verse, Rooney recalled. Carey kept calling into the studio to check on his progress, and then had her then-husband, record executive Tommy Mottola, speak to the heavy-eyed rap star.

“He said one line — ‘me and Mariah, go back like babies with pacifiers’ — then paused, said, ‘Yo, I need to take a break,’ and went to sleep for 45 minutes,” Rooney said.
A week later, they had to shoot the video, for which the late performer was paid an additional $ 15,000.
Rooney told Billboard he sent a car to pick him up, and “he drank every friggin’ thing in the limo.”
When it was time to shoot his scene, ODB put on a pair of jeans and Timberland boots and told him, “I’m not going to wear a shirt, I don’t need no clothes.”
Rooney said Carey turned him on to peach schnapps, which he chugged down. “What a disastrous day that was … between the hot sun and him drinking two bottles.”
