The Miss Teen USA competition is doing away with its swimsuit portion, and we couldn’t be happier!
Honestly, we don’t understand why the contestants were forced to parade around in bikinis in the first place, considering they’re underage TEENS.

On Wednesday, USA Today revealed the pageant made the incredible decision to ditch the misogynistic, sexualized swimwear competition for a more family-friendly alternative!
The 51 girls competing for the crown will be trading in skimpy two-pieces for athletic wear!
In the past, organizers defended the swimsuit event, claiming that it shows the contestants’ athleticism. However, the Miss Universe organization believes workout wear is a more age-appropriate way for the girls to be judged on their fitness!
Reigning Miss Teen USA, Katherine Haik, applauds the pageant’s move away from bikini exploitation, saying:
“I have been an athlete my entire life. As a member of a softball team and a competitive dance team, I spend a lot of time in athletic wear. This new direction for Miss Teen USA is a great way to celebrate the active lives that so many young women lead and set a strong example for our peers.”
Miss Universe president Paula Shugart adds that this monumental change is designed to empower the competing teenagers, explaining in a memo:
“This decision reflects an important cultural shift we’re all celebrating that empowers women who lead active, purposeful lives and encourage those in their communities to do the same. Our hope is that this decision will help all of Miss Teen USA’s fans recognize these young women for the strong, inspiring individuals they are.”
We think the competition definitely made the right call!
But what do U think of the change, Perezcious readers?!
