Jimmy Kimmel grills Donald Trump on controversial Muslim ban

At least one late-night host isn’t lobbing softballs at Donald Trump.

Jimmy Kimmel took the big-talking billionaire to task Wednesday night during an otherwise pleasant interview, suggesting that his preposterous proposal to bar Muslims from the country was “un-American and wrong.”

“Did anyone try to talk you out of saying we should temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States?” asked the incredulous comedian.

The GOP front-runner stood firm in his belief — as he has repeatedly in interviews — and even claimed he had the support of Muslims.

“I have many, many friends who are Muslim, and they’re great people,” Trump said. “I will tell you some of them aren’t so thrilled with what I said, but many of them called me and they said, ‘You know, Donald, you’re right. We have a problem.'”

Trump also lauded Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as “a winner” after Kimmel held up Wednesday’s Daily News cover declaring that “Brady Has No Balls!” for not condemning the candidate’s plan.

“But isn’t it un-American and wrong to discriminate against people based on their religion?” Kimmel shot back, winning a round of applause from his audience.

But Trump, insisting that “we have a real problem,” said his controversial message has resonated with Americans in the wake of deadly terrorist attacks in San Bernardino and Paris.

“The people that are friends of mine that called, they said, ‘Donald, you’ve done us a tremendous service because we do have a problem,'” he said.

“Those may have been crank calls,” Kimmel retorted. “Did you check the caller ID?”

When the host pressed Trump to address the frequently posed argument that his reckless rhetoric could disenfranchise some Muslims and drive them to join ISIS, the real-estate mogul replied, “I don’t buy it.”

Kimmel went on to challenge the golden-haired tycoon’s call to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, citing his Mexican-American sidekick on the show, Guillermo Rodriguez, who immigrated to the U.S. illegally.

“Thank God he went through the process … I mean, first of all, he’s adorable,” Kimmel said. “But don’t we want people who want to be here so badly that they will risk everything to be in America and to be an American?”

Trump called Hispanics “unbelievable people” and said he did indeed want them in the country — if they came here legally.

“If you look at the polls that come out on the Hispanics, the people that are here (legally) … I’m doing great,” he added.

Surprisingly, the bombastic businessman — who threw multiple punches at his fellow candidates during Wednesday night’s GOP debate — also called for unity within his own party.

“I would like to see the Republican Party come together, and I’ve been a little bit divisive in the sense of hitting people hard,” he admitted.
