It’s a Christmas miracle of sorts for Green Day fans — the band dropped their first new song in more than a year.
The holiday-themed track, “X-Mas Time of the Year,” landed as a surprise Thursday afternoon with a “Happy Holidays from Green Day” missive on the band’s official Twitter feed.
After laying mostly dormant since their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction jam in April, the band’s front man Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt resurfaced earlier this week to plug their new coffee company, Oakland Coffee Works.

Speculation ran rampant on social media that “X-Mas Time of the Year,” their first new song since last year’s “State of Shock,” is a sign that the band is recording a follow-up to 2012’s triple album, “¡Uno!/¡Dos!/¡Tré!”
