You think you know Wonder Woman? Well, you don’t.
And the masterminds behind the forthcoming “Wonder Woman” blockbuster are playing to your lack of knowledge about the iconic, yet often forgotten superhero in a newly released teaser for the 2017 flick.
In the video, which features the first footage from the highly anticipated superhero thriller, filmmakers promise the movie provides a wave of insight about the underrepresented heroine — who is finally set to star in her own feature film more than 70 years after her comic book creation.
“Wonder Woman’s like one of the greatest superheroes out there, but people don’t know her origins like they know Superman’s origin or Batman’s origin,” Geoff Johns, DC Comics Chief Creative Officer, says in the teaser, which aired on The CW on Tuesday.
The first look at “Wonder Woman” starring Gal Gadot, was released on Tuesday.
“What we want to do in the film is really tell people who she is, where she comes from and why she does what she does.”
But the movie’s star, Gal Gadot, promises the movie is much more than a simple origin story.
“We are going to see her coming of age, the entire history, what’s her mission,” she says in the video.
“Wonder Woman” is set to hit theaters in 2017.
Wonder Woman has long been a fan favorite, as well as a feminist icon, thanks to her empowering exploits in the comic books published by DC Comics and the 1970s TV series starring Lynda Carter.
But one of the new film’s new stars, actor Chris Pine, says it’s about time the character soars onto an even bigger stage.
“Telling a story of this now is pivotal and important,” Pine said in the teaser. “The story of a very powerful woman.”
Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 23, 2017 — but comic book geeks won’t have to wait until then to see iconic character on the big screen.
Gadot will appear in this March’s highly anticipated superhero showdown, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
