Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen performs on the Diver Down tour at Madison Square Garden circa 1982 wearing one of his many pairs of overalls.
Eddie Van Halen was known for his genius skills on the guitar — but more outrageous than his riffs were his rags.
One could argue the guitarist spent more time shredding his pants than his ax which resulted in such Van Halen hits as “Jump,” “Runnin’ With the Devil” and “Panama.”
In 2007, the band was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after more than 30 years of pumping out heavy rock.
Eddie Van Halen holds his iconic guitar while wearing a red jumpsuit.
From plenty pairs of overalls to dizzying zebra print, Eddie Van Halen coined his own over-the-top style on stage.
On Eddie’s 61st birthday on Jan. 26, here’s a look at his most shocking stage outfits:
8. Yellow zebra leggings
Eddie wore these skin tight yellow zebra leggings with no shirt on stage.
7. Pink poofy pants
Paired with a basic white T-Shirt, Eddie Van Halen donned a voluminous pair of pink pants on stage similar to those of his infamous jumpsuit.
6. Yellow pants and striped crop top
More yellow and more zebra print. Eddie wore a highlighter yellow pair of tight pants along with a striped tee so small and tight it looked like a crop top on the rock star.
5. Striped overalls
Another pair of overalls in Eddie’s collection was a bright red pair with vertical thick white stripes.
4. Red overalls featuring an abstract print (with a jacket to match)
This pair of overalls almost exactly matched the abstract print of Eddie Van Halen’s famous Frankenstrat guitar.
3. Pants with patches and yellow blazer with zebra print
Eddie wore this stand out blazer under this stand out blazer. He paired this jacket with a pair of patched up baggy jeans.
2. Famous jumpsuits
Eddie had a red one, a yellow one and a pink one.
Apparently, he still has this jumpsuit and could still fit into it as most recently as 2008. The outfit was worn by Eddie throughout the band’s 1980 Invasion tour.
1. Zebra-print overalls
This strummer loved his animal print.
One of Eddie’s most memorable overalls was this white zebra print pair.
In countless stage performances, Eddie Van Halen just said forget to a shirt and went topless during his riveting guitar solos.
