Pop superstar Adele has a message for those who put pressure on women to breastfeed: “Go f— yourselves.”
The British singing sensation told the crowd at her sold-out show at London’s O2 Arena last week that it’s unfair to expect every woman to feel comfortable breastfeeding their child.
“It’s f—ing ridiculous, and all those people who put pressure on us, you can go f— yourselves, all right?” Adele, who has a three year old son named Angelo, told the audience. “Because it’s hard. Some of us can’t do it. I managed about nine weeks with my boobs.”
The 27-year-old singer was laughing as she ranted about the topic, but her message was clear.
Although she originally planned on breastfeeding her son for longer, she told the audience she had little choice but switch to formula early on.
“All I wanted to do was breastfeed and then I couldn’t and then I felt like, ‘If I was in the jungle now back in the day, my kid would be dead because my milk’s gone,'” she said.
Adele slammed those who put pressure on women to breastfeed at a recent show in London.
Her impassioned comments came less than two weeks after popular celebrity chef Jaime Oliver received backlash for telling London’s LBC Radio that breastfeeding has major benefits and that the general public should have a “problem” with mothers using other practices to feed their kids.
Even before Adele’s spirited remarks, however, Oliver backtracked and explained he was merely supporting mothers who chose to breastfeed.
“I understand that breastfeeding is not easy and in some cases not even possible but just wanted to support women who DO want to breastfeed and make it easier to do so,” he posted on Twitter. “I’m not planning to start a campaign around breastfeeding.”
Adele also admitted at a recent London show that she had “so much testosterone” when she was pregnant, she grew a beard, according to The Mirror.
“It’s actually true,” she told the crowd. “I’m not telling a joke. I actually have a beard, but I’m proud of it. I call it ‘Larry.’”
Adele has a 3-year-old son named Angelo.
Likewise, the “Hello” singer has provided a number of other memorable moments during her ongoing world tour.
Last month, she helped a woman propose to her boyfriend at Leap Day in Belfast, then welcomed another couple onstage to celebrate their engagement two weeks later in London.
Then last week, the Grammy-winning artist even twerked onstage during a performance, much to the delight of her audience.
